Origins of Fujikoshi

Nachi-Fujikoshi Corporation was founded in the city of Toyama in 1928. Kohki Imura, the founder, named the company Fujikoshi in order to give concrete expression to his creed that self sufficiency in machine tool supply is indispensable to Japan's economic prosperity.
The first two characters which read "Fuji" were picked from the Buddhist scriptures. A passage in the scriptures says, "Justice and injustice appear to be bi-different things. The truth is that they are "Fuji" (not two). They are one and the same".

In other words, the true comprehension of objects is attainable only through penetrating observation from high above, ignoring the superficial appearances of such objects.

Also one of Imura's favourite Chinese maxims goes, "Have one mind when talking to thousands of friends. Do not have two minds when talking to one friend". The word "Fuji" eloquently conveys the essence of the maxim.

The third Chinese character in the corporate name which reads "Koshi" has been used to denote the general area along the Japan Sea including Toyama since olden days. Koshi can be written as a word play using two different characters and also pronounced "Koshi" but meaning "a lofty ideal".

All in all, Fujikoshi signifies an organisation where the members join forces in order to make lofty ideals come true.
